Week 6 - Term 2

Dear Families,

We’re already in the back half of Term 2—how quickly the time is flying! Our amazing teachers are currently preparing mid-year reports, outlining the progress students are making toward year-level achievement standards. This involves detailed data analysis and moderation to ensure accurate grading. Reports will be distributed on the final day of Term 2 via the SEQTA Engage portal. Please ensure your account is set up, as per the recent instructions.

🖤💛❤️ National Reconciliation Week

From 27 May to 3 June, Australians have been acknowledging National Reconciliation Week. This year’s theme, “Bridging Now to Next,” has inspired rich classroom discussions about reconciliation with First Nations peoples. 

As part of our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), staff will participate in a cultural awareness session during this Friday’s pupil-free day. This professional learning will help us embed Indigenous perspectives across the curriculum and foster a culturally safe environment for all.

⚽🏐 SAPSASA Sports Highlights

Congratulations to Jack B, Archie A, and Myles M, who represented our school at the SAPSASA Football Carnival, coached by our very own Mr Goldy and Mr Daley! The team finished a very credible 3rd in Division One—a fantastic achievement!

We also celebrate Isla S, who has been selected for the upcoming SAPSASA District Netball Carnival. We look forward to hearing how she goes!

👵👴 Grandparents & Special Friends Day

We are excited to welcome our Grandparents and Special Friends to St Francis. Their presence in our children’s lives is invaluable, and we are grateful for their continued support. In our Catholic tradition, we honour grandparents through the feast days of St Joachim and St Anne, the earthly grandparents of Jesus and patrons of all grandparents.

🏕️ Year 4 Camp Adventures

Our Year 4 students recently returned from their camp at Aldinga, and by all accounts, it was a fantastic experience! A big thank you to the staff who supported the camp—your dedication and care are deeply appreciated.

🎸 Battle of the Bands – June 16

The annual Battle of the Bands is fast approaching! Our school band has been rehearsing enthusiastically under the expert guidance of Olivia Bozzon, and they’ll be ready to rock on June 16, alongside bands from across Adelaide. We can’t wait to cheer them on!

St Francis Disco – June 20

Students in Reception to Year 5 are eagerly awaiting the second annual St Francis Disco, happening on Friday, June 20. Be sure to purchase your child’s ticket so they don’t miss out on this fun-filled evening!

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Nives Kresevic, Gina Mittiga, and Todd Featherby, who have each recently lost their fathers. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families during this difficult time.

Year 3 Religious Education Update

This term, our Year 3 students have been exploring the topic of how the early Christians remembered Jesus and supported one another through faith and community. A key focus has been on St Paul and the significant role he played in spreading the message of Jesus through the letters he wrote to various Christian communities.

As part of this learning, students were invited to step into the shoes of St Paul and write a short letter offering advice or encouragement to a friend, inspired by his style and purpose. Once completed, these heartfelt letters were shared with their intended recipients.

Below are two wonderful examples from Claire and Mila.

World Environment Day June 5^th

World Environment Day is a special time to care for our planet, just like St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology, who loved all of God’s creation. Inspired by Pope Francis’ letter Laudato Si’, we are reminded that the Earth is our common home and we must protect it. At school, we’ve been exploring ways to help, like recycling, saving water and electricity - small actions that make a big difference!

Dear God, thank you for the beautiful world around us, with its amazing plants and animals. Help us to be good caretakers of our Earth, just like you want us to. Let's protect our home and share it with kindness, so it can be a happy place for everyone, now and in the future. Amen.

Grandparents Morning

On June 5^th we will be celebrating all grandparents by hosting a grandparent’s morning.

Jesus' grandparents were St. Anne and St. Joachim. They were the parents of Mary, Jesus' mother. While not directly mentioned in the Bible, their story is passed down through Christian tradition and they are revered as saints by some Christians. 

Winter Appeal

Thank you to all the families who have generously contributed to the Winter Appeal so far. Your support is greatly appreciated.

We are still in need of additional donations to help those doing it tough this winter.
Please consider donating adult-sized items such as:

• Raincoats and jackets
• Gloves, scarves, and beanies
• Track pants and socks
• Small umbrellas

Our greatest need at this time is for blankets and sleeping bags.
Every contribution makes a difference—thank you for your continued support.
